Derrick Devell Keith II Death-Identified As Shooting Victim

A man killed during an argument inside a northeast Birmingham apartment Sunday morning has now been identified.

Derrick Devell Keith II, 30, was shot just before 9 a.m. in the 2300 block of Seventh Way N.W. at Madison Park apartments.

He was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital at 9:38 a.m., according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said Keith and the suspect were involved in a verbal dispute inside one of the units. Shots were then fired, hitting the victim.

Keith ran outside of the apartment and collapsed on a sidewalk.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service rushed him to UAB where he was pronounced dead.

Wade said the suspect is in custody. No formal charges have been announced.

Keith is Birmingham’s 22nd homicide this year. Of those, three have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.

In all of Jefferson County, there have 29 homicides, including the 22 in Birmingham.
