Josiah Brown Arrested For The Murder of Teryus Thomas, Victim of Gunshot

The Colorado Springs police have reported the identification and apprehension of the individual responsible for the shooting death of an 18-year-old after a dispute at the Citadel Mall on the previous Christmas Eve.

Authorities obtained an arrest warrant for 22-year-old Josiah Brown, a resident of Colorado Springs, on Tuesday, January 9. Brown faces charges of Murder in the First Degree, Attempted Murder in the First Degree (two counts), and Assault in the First Degree (two counts) in connection with the incident.

On Wednesday, the Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force, Tactical Enforcement Unit, and K9 Unit successfully arrested Josiah Brown without any complications. This information was conveyed in a statement released by the police on Thursday.

Brown was logged into the El Paso County Jail just before 8 p.m., and records indicate that this marks his sixth entry into the facility.

The incident at Citadel Mall unfolded around 4:30 p.m. on December 24, 2023, triggering a police response following reports of gunfire within the mall premises.

Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds, including 18-year-old Teryus Thomas from Colorado Springs, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to accounts provided by investigators and mall staff interviewed by The Gazette, a confrontation erupted between two groups, escalating to the point where gunfire erupted.

Further scrutiny revealed that one of the two injured individuals was identified as a mall security guard.

As of now, the Colorado Springs Police Department affirms that the investigation into the shooting remains active.
